Seven session types, one approach: slow, observed, and shaped around the dog — not the calendar. Browse the index, or skim what each session is actually for.

How It Works

We keep things simple and safe. Your dog stays comfortable. You get amazing pictures.

01

You Get Your Dog Ready

Pick a place your dog loves. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and happy.

02

We Create Magic Together

Your dog stays on a leash for safety. I guide your poses so you look natural and relaxed.

03

The Leash Disappears

I use my editing skills to remove the leash from every photo. All you see is you, your dog, and beautiful nature.

04

Treasured Memories for Your Wall

You get high-quality photos ready to print. Display them in your home and cherish them forever.

Chris McCarthy, professional dog photographer in Rockland MA — South Shore Pet Photography

Meet Chris

I've been photographing dogs professionally on the South Shore since 2014 — exclusively dogs, no families, no weddings, no headshots. Over more than a decade I've worked with hundreds of dogs across every breed, age, and temperament: reactive dogs, anxious dogs, senior dogs in their final months, and eight-week-old puppies who haven't learned to sit yet.

My studio at 83 E Water St Unit E328 in Rockland is purpose-built for dog portrait work: controlled lighting designed for coat texture and color, a contained environment with no unpredictable stimuli, and a one-dog-at-a-time booking policy so your dog is never sharing the space with another animal. Outdoor sessions take place across 20+ South Shore towns — beaches, conservation land, harbors, and backyards.

My own dog Sully came to me as a fearful rescue with significant reactivity. Working with him — figuring out the specific techniques that let an anxious dog settle and eventually show their real personality — shaped everything about how I approach sessions. I work from distance with long lenses, use decompression time before the camera comes out, and read body language rather than forcing moments.

The portraits I make are meant to be on your wall for thirty years — not in a phone gallery you scroll past. That's the standard I work to.
