Kingston Bay, the Jones River, and the Foothills — three completely different environments within a few miles of each other.

I'm Chris McCarthy, professional dog photographer based in Rockland. I've photographed dogs throughout Kingston and know which locations produce the best images for which dogs. Reactive, senior, and multi-dog sessions always welcome.

Where We Photograph in Kingston

Kingston is one of the most varied locations on the South Shore — ocean-facing bay, tidal river, and inland conservation land all within a short drive.

Kingston Bay Beach

A sheltered crescent beach facing Duxbury Beach across the bay. The calm water creates reflections that the exposed ocean can't — on still mornings, the image doubles. Very different energy from Duxbury or Plymouth: quiet, intimate, the kind of beach where a dog can relax without being overwhelmed by wind and waves. Best in spring and fall when beach traffic is low.

Jones River Landing

The Jones River runs through Kingston toward Cape Cod Bay, and the tidal sections near the landing have some of the most photogenic marsh scenery on the South Shore. Foot traffic is minimal. The river reflections in early morning, combined with the surrounding conservation fields, give us a genuinely quiet environment — rare this close to Plymouth.

Foothills Recreation Area

Three hundred-plus acres of mixed terrain in the center of Kingston. Open meadows transition to mixed forest, giving us a variety of backgrounds in a single session — ideal for dogs who need to move between environments to stay engaged. The elevated sections offer enough clearance for open sky backgrounds, and the tree cover gives us shade when the light gets harsh.

Kingston Is Worth the Drive

Kingston is 20 minutes south of Rockland — far enough that many photographers don't bother, close enough that the drive is nothing. That means the locations stay quiet. Jones River Landing on a Tuesday morning is ours alone.

I've written a full location guide for Kingston dog photography — every spot, every season, what light to expect and when. That knowledge makes your session more efficient and your photos better.

How It Works

01

We Talk

I learn about your dog and what kind of images you're hoping for. We pick the right Kingston location based on your dog's personality.

02

Pick a Spot

Bay for the calm dog who loves water. Jones River for the reactive dog who needs space. Foothills for the active dog who needs terrain.

03

Your Session

60–90 minutes, typically at golden hour. Your dog stays leashed. The leash disappears in editing.

04

Gallery in 5–7 business days. We choose favorites together and I help you turn them into wall art.

Also Serving Nearby Towns

Kingston anchors the Plymouth-side outer ring — Halifax, Carver, Middleborough, and Pembroke are short drives for sessions starting from this area.

Kingston Dog Photography — FAQ

Where do you photograph dogs in Kingston?

My main Kingston locations are Kingston Bay Beach (sheltered bay with calm water and soft sand — very different from the exposed ocean beaches nearby), Jones River Landing (tidal river with marsh views and very low foot traffic), and the Foothills Recreation Area (300-plus acres of mixed terrain with varied light through the day). Kingston Conservation Land along the Jones River is also excellent for reactive dogs who need space and predictability.

Is Kingston Bay Beach good for dog photography?

Yes — especially off-season. Kingston Bay is a sheltered, crescent-shaped beach facing Duxbury Beach across the bay. The calm water creates reflections that open ocean beaches can't. Dogs are on leash, but the beach is typically quiet on weekday mornings. Fall and spring sessions here are exceptional.

How much does a dog photo session in Kingston cost?

Sessions start at $195. That includes your session time and a full gallery of professionally edited images. Most Kingston-area clients invest between $800–$1,500 (~$1,200 average) in finished wall art after seeing their gallery.

My dog is reactive. Where in Kingston works best?

Jones River Landing and the conservation land along the river are my first choice for reactive dogs in Kingston — low traffic, flat terrain, wide sightlines. The Foothills Recreation Area also offers enough space that we can work far from other visitors. If your dog does better indoors entirely, the Rockland studio is about 20 minutes north.

Do you know Kingston from doing sessions there before?

Yes. I've photographed dogs at Kingston Bay, along the Jones River, and throughout the Foothills Recreation Area. I wrote a full guide to dog photo locations in Kingston — see the blog for details on each spot and what time of day works best.

Professional Dog Photographer · Rockland, MA · 11+ years experience

I've photographed hundreds of dogs across the South Shore and Greater Boston since 2014 — every breed, size, age, and temperament. My own rescue, Sully, was reactive and anxious when I got him, and working with him every day taught me how to photograph dogs that other photographers find difficult. I specialize in reactive and shy dogs, seniors, and memory sessions — the sessions that matter most and need the most patience.
